My wife & I are visiting Mach 30, 2014 thru April 4, 2014 with two grand kids age16 & 10. Can anyone recommend any ways we can save money because we are retired living on a small income. Also, we will be staying at Barefoot Suites Resort.

    Hi Kenneth,

Thank you so much for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.  I certainly understand wanting to stay on a budget while you are at Walt Disney World.  Let me give you a couple of ideas that my family and I use to save some money.

The biggest place where I think that you can save money is on food.  It can get expensive to eat out three meals a day in a theme park.  My family and I often eat breakfast in our resort before we head out.  We keep it simple - cereal or granola bars and fruit and juice and we are ready to go.  We also take food into the Disney theme parks.  We always carry in snacks and our beverages.  You cannot take in glass bottles, and you cannot take in a large rolling cooler, but you can carry in food and beverages in your backpacks or bags for the day.  We take in plastic bottles of water and soda, as well as baggies full of pretzels, apples, and other snacks.  You could extend this and take in sandwiches and cookies for lunch if you like.

Another place to save money is to really set expectations on the souvenirs your grandchildren will be able to purchase while you at Walt Disney World.  You could set a price limit, or even get each grandchild their own Disney gift card with a certain dollar amount on it, and when that is gone, they are done with souvenirs.  Alternately, you could tell them that they are in charge of their own souvenirs and that you will not be buying anything extra.  In this case, they can bring their own money from home for souvenirs if they choose to do so.

I hope that these thoughts are helpful for you as you plan your vacation, Kenneth!  Have a great time planning, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
