Hi. My wife and I are thinking about doing the lightsaber experience at Savi’s lightsabers with our children. I was wondering though, are the lightsabers interactive with the land at all?

    Bright Suns, Michael!

I had a chance to explore Black Spire Outpost for myself last weekend at the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I loved every single moment of the time I spent there, but something I will never forget is building a lightsaber at Savi's Workshop. I won't spoil it for you because you really do have to see it for yourself, but if you're a Star Wars fan, or even if you aren't, it's a beautiful experience that made more than one of us in there feel pretty emotional!

Savi's Workshop is tucked away in a hidden building because Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu is currently under the control of the First Order. For that reason, you must keep your lightsaber in its protective cover at all times so you're not discovered to be a Jedi yourself. You might be subjected to some questioning and those Stormtroopers do not take "no" for an answer. While the lightsabers that you build at Savi's Workshop are not interactive with the land, the astromech units you build at Droid Depot certainly are! You can install a personality chip in your droid that determines how they will interact with their surroundings. One of the citizens of Batuu who works at Droid Depot told me that if your droid has a Resistance personality chip installed, they will warn you if any Stormtroopers, or "bucketheads" as she called them, are patrolling nearby. Of course, if you have First Order sympathies, there's a personality chip for that too!

    'Til the Spire, Michael!
