My wife and I are taking our 2.5 year old to WDW in December. We are up in the air on the stroller issue. Should we bring an umbrella stroller or a regular one? The umbrella one is less bulky, but the traditional has cup holders and storage.

Hi Michael! This issue about the kind of strollers is a tough one as it is such a personal decision. We all have our opinions and reasons and you have to find the answer that suits you best.

I am all about the umbrella stroller myself. I watch parents all the time trying to deal with the larger ones when getting on buses or boats that require them to be folded. They have to hang on to the child as well as get all the bags out from underneath and then fold it with one hand. Not an easy task even if you have another parent there to help. On busy buses just finding a place to hold it during the trip can be challenging too.

Umbrella strollers are easy to use, easy to fold, and take up very little room on the buses and in the park walkways which can be crowded. I have also found that since umbrella strollers don't have tons of room to store things you are forced to come without what you normally would have packed into a regular one. Most of that are things that you simply don't need in a day in the parks. For a December trip I suggest you simply bring a shopping bag that will hold your light jackets or sweatshirts when the sun comes out. If you purchase anything in the parks you can arrange for package pickup at the end of the day or have it delivered to your resort. Better yet you can have them ship it to your home too. I find that minimizing what you bring is the best for anyone. I try to put things in a locked pocket and not even bring a purse of any kind when I head to parks!

My vote is umbrella.  If you want to wait and purchase an inexpensive one Disney offers that at all shops on property for under $60. It has a canopy hood and is quite durable. That is less expensive then renting one in the parks each day too.
