My wife and I are taking our two girls, aged 8 and 5, in 2012, for the first time. We probably have a total budget of $5000. Where's the best Disney resort to stay? What's the best time of year to go (must be during some part of US public schoold holiday

    Hi Ed,

Thanks for writing.  I chose not to take my kids out of school for vacations, and just relocated to Central Florida from New Jersey.  We generally took our "big" Disney trip toward the end of August, when schools in much of the country are already back in session, but New York schools are still out for summer break.  The parks are not nearly as crowded as they tend to be earlier in the summer in my experience.  Disney often offers free dining packages during this time of year, and that is a huge perk that can save you a significant amount of money.  In fact, there is a free dining promotion right now for most nights from August 25th through September 29th.  If you are looking to save on a resort, I would recommend any of the Disney Value Properties.  They are incredibly well-themed and feature great swimming pools, shopping, arcades and dining venues.  Your girls will love them!  Our current favorite Value Resort is Disney's Pop Century. Feel free to write me back with more questions!  Happy planning!
