Hello! My wife, son(7 year old), and I will be going 11/3/09-11/11/09, for the Food and Wine Festival. We have been multiple times. We were curious about Akershus, if it would be better for lunch or dinner? Is it a buffett and is it good food?

    Hi Sabrina,

Akershus is a favorite for families with children who love princesses!  The banquet hall is a perfect backdrop for a princess character meal.

It's not a traditional buffet.  You order from a prix fixe menu, but there is a cold buffet with some traditional Norwegian fare to begin your meal.  The experience is like going to a restaurant that has a salad bar.  So, your appetizer is a buffet, but your main course and desserts are chosen off of a menu.

Lunch and dinner are very similar.  There are a few more selections at dinner, but there is a nice mix of Norwegian and American options.  The child's menu features pizza, ravioli and other kid friendly items in case you have a picky eater.  You can check out the menus by clicking HERE.

Overall, it's a pretty good experience made special by the appearance of the princesses.  If your little boy is not into princesses, you may want to try a different restaurant in World Showcase - Biergarten, Teppan Edo and Restaurant Marrakesh are some other fun options.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
