My wife is pregnant, we found out this week, great news, but not sure how to plan our Disney trip now

Hi there, James! Welcome to planDisney. First and foremost, the biggest congratulations are in order to you and your wife. I’m sure you two are beaming with joy at the news of your little Mouseketeer! I’d love to walk you through how to navigate the Magic Kingdom with this wonderful news!

Now I’m sure you and your wife might be wondering the obvious: is there anything suitable to do at Walt Disney World while pregnant? And the answer might shock you, at least it did for me when I visited the parks at 19 weeks pregnant. There are actually just a handful of attractions that are off-limits when you’re expecting. Of course, stay away from roller coasters and attractions that are intense in motion. In addition, you can certainly take a gander at the list of attractions that are filtered as “expectant mother advisory” as a precautionary measure to steer clear of. It’ll also be noted on the signage at each attraction whether or not the ride may or may not be suitable for expectant mothers. You can always as a Cast Member at the entrance of each attraction just to be sure. Taking a look at the attraction list prior to your visit can help you plan what rides to prioritize and what rides to skip out on. However, that’s not to say that you can’t ride those attractions yourself. When I visited with my siblings while pregnant, they were eager to ride Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. While I was not able to ride, I was still able to queue up with them, and a Cast Member led me to the offloading area where I could wait for them as they finished riding.

I always felt that taking frequent breaks through snack or refreshment stops, or just sitting on a bench, helped make sure that I wasn’t overstraining myself throughout the park day. Of course, it always helps to have your wife speak to her doctor beforehand and also know her limitations in what she’s able to do. Set a pace that is comfortable for her and you, that way the parks are enjoyable for the both of you! While my siblings are definitely the type to rope drop and stay until shut down, it was heartwarming to see that they made adjustments for me to ensure that I was able to make it through the day.

I also took my trip while pregnant as an opportunity to visit the Baby Care Centers to familiarize myself with them once my little one was born in anticipation of his first visit. If you’re first-time parents, it was wonderful to see how thoughtfully curated the centers are. From vending machines in case you forgot to pack a pacifier or diaper, to bottle warmers for milk, there were plenty of amenities!

To commemorate the wonderful news and bring a little souvenir home, I personalized an ornament with the wording “Baby (last name) due (month).” Pop into Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom to do so! Every time I take it out during the holidays, it’s a sweet reminder of a beautiful trip I shared with family. In addition, we had reservations for character dining during our visit. While I wasn’t entirely showing, I would take pictures with characters cradling my belly and let them know I was expecting. It made for adorable photos that I still look back on.

James, thank you so much for visiting planDisney. I’m incredibly excited for your growing family. Remember to take your time on this upcoming trip, go with the flow, and soak up all the memories that you can! If you have any questions before you and your wife’s visit, planDisney is always here for you!
