My wife and I are planning on taking our 2 yr old to WDW. His birthday is in December, but we want to go on an off season. Maybe 2016 between Jan-May, which month do you think would be best, less crowded, and not so hot or cold? When can I start planning?

    Hi Chris,

You are smart getting a head start on your planning for you trip in 2016. You can book a room only about 400 days in advance but I think waiting about 6-9 months in advance is usually a good time frame. This will provide you a more accurate pricing and you still are ahead of Advance Dining Reservations and FastPass+ selections.

While I know you are looking at an off-season to travel, up until around December 20, you will find low crowds at the Walt Disney World Resort because school is in session and guests are waiting for the week between Christmas and New Year to travel.

If you are looking at another time between January and May, my pick would be April but not Easter and/or Passover week. During the non-holiday week, the crowds are light and the weather is perfect. There is just enough warmth to walk around in shorts if you fancy but the humidity is not at peak. You also have cooler evenings and the daily thunderstorms have not started. The end of March is just as nice provide you avoid the two religious holidays. If you do book during the holidays, the crowds will peak around Easter Sunday and then drop back. First two weeks of May work as well.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
