My wife and I will be Orlando in July. We only want a one day pass. What's the best option to experience some theme park rides, shows, and the ESPN exhibit?

    Hey Kenric!

Spending a day at the Walt Disney World Resort is a great way to get your feet wet and get a taste of that Disney magic.

Let’s first dive into The ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This is a separate venue from the main theme parks. It's a massive sports facility that hosts various events such as cheer competitions, special Olympic events, and other sporting events such as baseball, basketball, and soccer competitions. However, unless there is a specific event scheduled during your visit, there might not be much to see or do at this complex. It’s worth checking the events calendar ahead of time if you’re particularly interested in sports events.

Now, choosing which Theme Park you are going to visit depends on what you are hoping to experience. I always tend to recommend either Magic Kingdom Park or EPCOT for a one-day visit.

Magic Kingdom Park is perfect for a quintessential Disney experience with its mix of rides, shows, and the iconic Cinderella Castle. Here you can experience some classic attractions such as Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion. There is a fun parade called the Festival of Fantasy Parade where you can see iconic Disney Characters and beautiful floats. Mickey’s PhilharMagic is a great 3D show featuring scenes (and even some special smells) from various Disney movies. It’s also a great place to take a break from that July heat. I can’t think of a better way to end your night then by watching Happily Ever After. This spectacular nighttime show above Cinderella Castle offers moving music, beautiful Castle projections, and an awe-inspiring fireworks display. Magic Kingdom is ideal for a classic Disney experience with iconic rides, beloved characters, and entertaining shows.

If you prefer a mix of futuristic attractions, cultural experiences, and unique shows, EPCOT is also a fantastic choice. Spaceship Earth is an attraction that takes you on a journey through the history of human communication inside the iconic geodesic sphere. It tells a story that spans thousands of years and takes you as far back as the dawn of humanity. Soarin’ Around the World is a breathtaking flight simulation that takes you on a journey over famous global landmarks. Luminous The Symphony of Us is an evening fireworks and laser show over World Showcase Lagoon. It’s a great way to close out your evening.

EPCOT also offers the World Showcase, where you can explore pavilions themed to different countries, each offering unique dining, shopping, and cultural experiences. If you’re more interested in diverse attractions and global culture, EPCOT is a great place to spend the day.

I hope that you and your wife have the most magical day!
