Hi Brian,
Don't let their fun on the Wild Africa Trek stop you and your younger daughter from having a WILD time at Animal Kingdom. I have a great suggestion. The
Wilderness Explorers interactive quest through the Animal Kingdom is full of interesting education about animals, cultures, and science all in this amazing game that is a blast to do. My daughter, who is also 6 years old, did it this past summer during its very first week.
Basically, you start off taking the "oath" of a Wilderness Explorer (based on the scouting program of Russell in the Disney movie, Up), learn the official hand signal and then make your way around Animal Kingdom stopping at all the different stations to learn, do, or observe something while earning a "patch" (sticker to add to your Wilderness Explorer booklet). You can do as many or as few as you like. The program is complimentary to all guests with a valid park admission. My daughter is still able to rattle off interesting facts to her friends that she learned doing this over the summer. Even if you don't finish (which you most likely will not do in a couple of hours), after you meet up with the rest of your family, she can continue the program throughout the rest of the day. This ended up being one of my daughter's absolute favorite things she did on our entire vacation.
I hope you have a blast and remember "adventure is out there" (to quote Ellie from Up)!
