Hiya, Joe! Thanks for swinging by planDisney with your
Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning question.
I love the convenience of using a MagicBand or MagicBand+ while vacationing at Disney World. From tapping in at the parks to unlocking my Disney Resorts Collection hotel room and even using the bands for payment, it doesn’t get much simpler, which is exactly what I am looking for on a vacation with my family.
Since your last visit in 2020, Disney unveiled a new MagicBand option,
MagicBand+, so it is safe to assume that you and your wife are attempting to use the older version. MagicBand features an internal, non-replaceable battery with an estimated lifespan of about two years. Although it’s used mainly for Disney PhotoPass functionality, essential functions, like I previously mentioned, could continue to work beyond the estimated battery life. I have used MagicBands well beyond the two-year mark without issues, even just a few weeks ago.
Assuming your wife’s MagicBand is still functional, you will want to re-link her MagicBand through the
My MagicBands and Cards link on the main Walt Disney World Website. Scroll down Link a MagicBand, click Link, and you will be taken to a screen to enter the ID number located on the back of each MagicBand/MagicBand+.
If you are having any issues with linking your tickets to your MagicBand/MagicBand+, you can find more information in the
Bands and Cards section of Disney’s Frequently Asked Questions, come back to planDisney to ask me directly, and you can speak to a Cast Member upon arrival at your resort or a Guest Relations location at the entry point of all theme parks. Maybe it is time to upgrade your wife’s band to the MagicBand+ (we both know she deserves it). My favorite locations to purchase the latest designs are
Pin Traders – Camera Center in EPCOT,
Pin Traders at Disney Springs, or
World of Disney, also at Disney Springs. If you do upgrade your bands to the MagicBand+, you can
follow these simple setup instructions.
Have a great trip, Joe!
