Ahoy, Mark! Welcome to planDisney, where we aim to answer all of your Disney Cruise Line questions.
When you sail with Disney Cruise Line, you quickly see why it is where magic meets the sea and will want to sail again and again. The Placeholder Reservation is a special
onboard offer, which gives repeat cruisers the opportunity to unlock future savings of at least 10% on the next cruise by putting down a deposit while they are still onboard. There is a limit of one future cruise booking per household for a maximum of two staterooms and the current requirement is a $250.00 deposit per stateroom. As you know, the future cruise must sail within 24 months and that date is calculated from when your Placeholder Reservation was originally purchased, plus sail dates are always subject to availability and some blockout dates do apply.
Unfortunately, the Placeholder Reservation must be used to book a cruise that sets sail within those 24 months. If your Placeholder was purchased in April 2026, then it would expire in April 2028 and cannot be used for a sailing in July 2028. However, your Placeholder Reservation is fully refundable. If you are unable to use your Placeholder for any reason, then your refund will automatically be processed to your original form of payment after the expiration date. Alternatively, if you want to initiate a refund now instead of waiting for those 24 months to pass, then you will find an option labeled “Cancel My Placeholder” on the “Future Cruise Placeholder” page. You can access your Placeholder information on the Disney Cruise Line
website by clicking on the tab labeled “Already Booked” at the top of the main page and logging into your MyDisney account. After you login, click on the “My Reservations” option under “My Disney Cruise” and select your Placeholder Reservation. You should see the “Future Cruise Placeholder” page, which will list the expiration date and the cancellation option.
Just be aware that once you cancel a Placeholder Reservation, there is no way to get it back. Since Disney Cruise Line has only released itineraries through
Summer 2027 right now, I would recommend at least waiting for the Fall 2027 and Spring 2028 itineraries announcement before cancelling your Placeholder. We expect the next set of itineraries to be released at the end of this summer, so you can see if any of those offerings would work for you before giving up your Placeholder.
Whether you get to use your Placeholder Reservation or not, it sounds like you are already planning your next adventure with Captains Mickey and Minnie. If you have any other questions about your next Disney vacation, then we are always here to help at planDisney. Happy future sailing!
