My wife and I are DVC members and just made reservations at the Boardwalk for August 1-8. My wife will be celebrating a milestone birthday on August 3 (the first time in the parks for he birthday) and I wanted to make it special for her. Thoughts?

    Welcome Home, Tim!

How exciting for your wife to be spending her birthday at the Walt Disney World Resort! And I applaud you for planning and wanting to make the day special for her. I love questions like this, and I have a few ideas that might work for you!

If you wanted to plan a full day of special surprises, why not start with an amazing breakfast at Ale & Compass at Disney’s Yacht Club? You can walk from Disney’s BoardWalk Villas and they have amazing items on the menu like Eggs Benedict or Dark Chocolate Waffles. Toast the start of her special day with a celebratory mimosa!

How about a birthday photo? Use the My Disney Experience App to find PhotoPass locations throughout the theme parks. Or to make it even more special you could book a Capture Your Moment PhotoPass Experience. Now available in both Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom Theme Park, you’ll get a private PhotoPass Photographer for a personal 20-minute photo session. You can purchase your favorites or get them all with Memory Maker. We booked Capture Your Moment this past fall and we got some amazing family photos!

Let's talk about that special gift. You can have flowers or a gift basket delivered to your room with Disney Floral & Gifts. Or purchase something special for her either before your trip or on your first day. My husband gifted me a Disney Pandora bracelet that I treasure. You can purchase a starter bracelet and a bead or two to commemorate the trip, her birthday, or her favorite character. Also very popular among my friends are the Disney-themed bags and wallets by Dooney & Bourke. You’ll find a variety of both of these gifts throughout the parks, but I recommend Uptown Jewelers on Main Street, U.S.A. for the best selection and variety.

Cap off her special day with an amazing dinner. I recommend California Grill at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, or Topolino’s Terrace at Disney’s Riviera Resort. Both of these locations book quickly, so be sure to make reservations 60 days before check-in. Make sure you note your wife’s birthday on the reservation or mention it at the podium when you check in. While nothing is guaranteed, sometimes a little pixie dust will come your way! If you wanted to surprise her one last time, how about a Mickey Mouse Celebration Cake delivered to your dinner? These cakes can be ordered upon arrival at the restaurant, and they are limited in quantity each day, but you can visit the restaurant podium in advance to reserve one.

I hope one or all of these ideas give you some inspiration to make your wife’s milestone birthday the celebration it deserves to be! Please let me know if you have any additional questions I can help you with before your visit, we are here to help.
