My wife and I are doing the westbound Panama Canal cruise ending in May 2027. Since we will already be in California we want to go to DisneyLand before we return home. What is the best way to make reservations for hotels, parks, etc. after a cruise?

Ahoy, Alan, and welcome to planDisney! You have quite the adventure planned for next year, and I absolutely love that you want to extend the magic with a stop at the Disneyland Resort! As an Orange County local, I visit the Happiest Place on Earth often and am happy to help you.

You'll book this portion of your vacation through the Disneyland Resort. You can purchase your hotel accommodations and theme park tickets together as a vacation package. This is convenient and also comes with a few added perks, like discounts at participating locations in the Downtown Disney District and a collectible pin (while supplies last). You can choose either the Disneyland Resort hotel vacation package (to stay at a Disney property) or a Good Neighbor Hotel vacation package (to stay at a nearby Disney-approved hotel). Either package can be purchased online or by calling the Disneyland Resort.

Remember that the Disneyland Resort still requires theme park reservations (at the time of writing this). That means you currently need a valid theme park ticket and reservation to enter the park. You'll be able to make your theme park reservations up to 180 days in advance of your visit (as long as your vacation package is paid in full).

Let's talk about timing. Your cruise is scheduled to arrive in San Diego on May 9, 2027, so choose that date as your hotel check-in date unless you plan to spend a night in San Diego first. If I were planning the trip, I'd spend that first afternoon and evening enjoying the hotel before making May 10 my first theme park day.

There aren't currently any transportation options offered by Disney Cruise Line or the Disneyland Resort between the San Diego Port Terminal and the Resort, but you have a few options. I've taken the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner many times between San Diego and Anaheim, and it's always been a great ride. The train station is within walking distance of the terminal, and there are some beautiful coastal views. Once you arrive at the station, it's a quick bus ride or rideshare to the Resort. Alternatively, you can arrange a private transfer or rent a car in San Diego.

You'll love Disneyland Park. It has an unbeatable charm as the place Walt Disney dreamed up and brought to life. Around every corner, there are places he imagined and attractions he helped shape. Beyond that, there are new innovations, great entertainment offerings, tasty food options, Characters to meet, and more. Plus, California Adventure is just a short walk across the Esplanade. If you have any additional questions about the Disneyland Resort as you plan this part of your vacation, feel free to send me a question directly!

Your 2027 adventure will be unforgettable, especially if you add a visit to the Disneyland Resort afterward. Remember, we're always happy to help here at planDisney, so come back anytime for vacation planning advice!
