My wife and I are going to celebrate our 50th anniversary and want to stay on Disney property but not go to the parks . We want to enjoy what the resort has to offer which ones would you recommend in each category?

    Hi Jim,

Welcome to planDisney! Happy upcoming anniversary to the two of you! My husband and I love to mark our anniversary at Walt Disney World -- we're approaching No. 39 -- so I'm happy to help with suggestions for you and your wife.

If you are looking at a value resort for your celebration, I would recommend Pop Century. Its fun theming harkens back to the decades of the late 20th century. So maybe ask for a room in the 1970s area to reflect when you got married. Pop is connected by the Skyliner to the Riviera, Caribbean Beach and Boardwalk area resorts. So it is easy from there to get to a romantic dinner at Topolino's Terrace, Flying Fish or Yachtsman Steakhouse

I have two recommendations in the moderate category: Port Orleans Resort -- French Quarter and Coronado Springs Resort.

French Quarter is one of the smallest Walt Disney World resorts and has an adult feel with its New Orleans theme. The grounds are beautiful, and you can take advantage of all the amenities and dining at the adjacent Port Orleans Riverside resort. Maybe book a carriage ride around the grounds? There isn't a table service restaurant at the French Quarter, but you are within an easy boat ride to all the shopping, dining and food at Disney Springs.

Coronado Springs is where my family stays each Christmas. We don't visit the parks then. We simply enjoy the resort. One reason we love Coronado is for the variety of food and drink available. There's Barcelona Lounge for terrific morning coffee and yummy cocktails and munchies in the afternoon and evening. We enjoy dinner at Toledo's atop the Gran Destino Tower (with its neighboring Dahlia Lounge). And Three Bridges Bar & Grill is a good place for a light dinner on the water. There's also a spa, several quiet pools and, if you're a fan of sangria, Sangria University on the weekends is a treat.

Moving on to deluxe resorts: We've spent at least one anniversary weekend at Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's the farthest resort from the parks and feels a bit like another world. All three restaurants there -- Sanaa, Jiko and Boma -- are among our favorites, and there are lots of places to relax, read, watch the animals or sit by the pool.

We're also fans of the Yacht Club resort when we're looking for a stay that's more sedate. It's conveniently located near the Boardwalk, great restaurants and the Skyliner, yet, in our experience, has a quieter, more adult atmosphere than the Boardwalk or the Beach Club.

I hope that's helpful, Jim. No matter which resort you choose, I'm sure you and your bride will have a wonderful time marking this amazing milestone. Please let us know if you'd like other suggestions for restaurants or experiences during your visit.

    Happy anniversary,

    Wilma
