Hi Dylan,
It warms my heart that you are planning this special experience for your wife. The
Walt Disney World Monorail is probably my favorite mode of transportation at Walt Disney World Resort, so I can understand your wife’s desire to try it. Thanks for coming to planDisney to help you plan for your trip around “The Highway in the Sky!”
You can certainly take a bus from
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to EPCOT in order to hop on the EPCOT Monorail. However, the EPCOT Monorail will only take you to the Transportation and Ticket Center, where you will transfer to another Monorail line to finish the trip to Magic Kingdom Park.
There are two Monorail lines at the Transportation and Ticket Center that will take you to Magic Kingdom Park. One is the Express Monorail which travels between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom Park with no stops. The other is the Resort Monorail which will take you from the Ticket and Transportation Center, stop at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, then stop at Magic Kingdom Park. If you take the Resort Monorail from Magic Kingdom Park it will make a stop at Disney’s Contemporary Resort before continuing to the Transportation and Ticket Center.
I’d like to make a suggestion, Dylan. The Disney Resort hotels located on the Resort Monorail loop are worth taking some time to explore. If you are set on visiting Magic Kingdom Park, you could spend the morning at the theme park, then get on the Resort Monorail line and get off at each Resort stop. My tip is to explore the shops, and maybe stop for a drink or a treat at each Resort. For example, at
Disney’s Contemporary Resort,
Contempo Café’s menu currently has a “5 Legged Goat Fruit Tart” or a “Monorail S’mores Brownie.” At
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, stop at
Pineapple Lanai for a DOLE Whip, or the
Tambu Lounge for a Lapu Lapu to share! And at
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, visit the
Enchanted Rose Lounge for appetizers and a “French Rose.”
After your trip around the Resort Monorail loop, you could return to Magic Kingdom Park and take a bus back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Or, similar to your original plans, you could take the Monorail to the Transportation and Ticket Center, switch to the EPCOT Monorail line and catch a bus back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge from EPCOT.
Keep in mind, if you have any dining reservations you should allow for sufficient travel time, no matter which method of transportation you take.
I hope this gave you some ideas, Dylan! Enjoy your trip on the Walt Disney World Monorail! If you have any future questions,
come back and see me at planDisney!
