My wife and I, along with our three children(11, 7, 5) are staying at the Yacht Club May 2013 for our week at WDW. We want to rent a boat at night to watch the fireworks. I know the boat comes with a driver. Do these drivers usually receive a tip?

Hi Diane! You are planning one of my family's favorite activities....an Illuminations cruise!  I suggest you quickly book it now as they are popular and you won't want to miss the opportunity.  To reserve your boat please call Disney recreation at 407-WDW-PLAY.

There is no gratuity included in the price for the cruise. The boats will come with a captain and you will be offered simple snacks of chips etc as well as water and sodas. We do offer a tip at the end of the cruise to our driver but it is not expected or necessary if you choose not to. We have always had wonderful captains who not only give us a wonderful cruise down to Hollywood Studios and back but also share special information about Illuminations with us.

The children will be required to wear life jackets and if you wish to have something more special to eat on board you can order that through private dining at the Yacht Club. Perhaps a wonderful Mickey head cake would give your family a treat that evening or just about anything else. Private dining will deliver it to the marina for you so it is easy and fun.

Enjoy and wishing you a beautiful evening watching Illuminations!
