Why are some relaxing and convenient walking paths at WDW being closed permanently, especially between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge AND between Polynesian Resort and Grand Floridian?

    Hi Linda!
    Welcome to planDisney.

It's always a pleasure to answer questions about Disney's Wilderness Lodge, which I happily call my "home from home".

There used to be a nature trail linking Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort.  This was closed a few years ago due to some construction work being carried out close to the pathway.  At the time of writing, this path is still closed, but if there are plans to re-open you may see the news on the Disney Parks Blog

I don't know if the trail will re-open in the future, but it was a very nice relaxing activity to enjoy with lovely views over Bay Lake along your way.   If you are interested in other running trails around Walt Disney World Resort, there are many!  Here are the details of where you will find them.  If the trail between Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness opens up again, the details will be listed here too.

At this time, the other ways to travel between the two resorts are by a regular bus service, or the Blue Flag Launch which sails between both resorts and Disney's Contemporary Resort from around 3.00pm until around 10.30pm.

The walking path between Disney's Polynesian Village Resort and Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is closed for construction work for the new Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.  This is projected to be opened later this year, so please keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog for all the latest news on this new Disney Vacation Club property and whether the walking path will re-open.  There is also a convenient boat ride connecting both of these Disney Resort hotels with Magic Kingdom Park, or you are welcome to use the Resort monorail.

Please come back and visit us if you have any further questions, and you can send me a direct question if you wish.  We will be happy to help you plan your magical vacation!
