    Why can I purchase a new ticket for a specific date but can't assign and existing ticket to that date?

    Hi Scott! Welcome to planDisney. Very happy to have you here as we just love helping Guests plan their Disneyland Resort vacations. I can see that you are looking to visit the Happiest Place on Earth next week! I'll call in Lightning McQueen on this one and race this response over to you faster than fast, quicker than quick! 

    While we are speeding through Radiator Springs, let's take a pit stop at Flo's V8 Cafe to fill our tank with the answer to your question. There are two main reasons that you may be running into some issues making a reservation on a specific date with an existing ticket. Are you ready for them? Let's fire up the engine and as Lightning would say, "Okay here we go. Focus. Speed ... "

    1) Single-day tickets are assigned to tiers with pricing based on the time of year and the day of the week. There are 6 tiers, where Tier 1 has the most black-out dates and Tier 6 has the least. If you are holding a single-day ticket, your ticket is valid on any date within your tier or any day within a lower tier. I know this is a little complicated. I find it helpful to take a look at a breakdown of the tiers. To visit on May 5th, it looks like you need to be holding a ticket that is Tier 2 or higher. If you pull up your ticket confirmation email or look at your ticket in the Disneyland Mobile App, it will indicate the tier just under the barcode. I hope you're still with me, Scott! If you are looking to visit on a day that is in a higher tier, there is an option to upgrade by visiting the Main Entrance Ticket Booth in person. I would also give our Guest Services team a call to see if they may be able to help you before you arrive. Waiting until the day of will leave you subject to same-day reservation availability, which can be limited. 

    2) There is a chance that theme park reservations are not available for your ticket type on the day you are looking to visit. Each ticket type (One Park Per Day, Park Hopper, Magic Key) has its own pool of reservations. Take a look at the theme park reservation calendar and toggle to your ticket type to view availability. Currently, I am seeing that May 5th is not available for One Park Per Day tickets, but is available for Park Hoppers if you choose to start your day at Disney California Adventure Park. With Park Hoppers, you can hop after 1 p.m. each day as much as you like. If it looks like this is the reason you have been unable to make reservations and you still do not see availability, keep checking! Guests are always changing their plans and reservations can open up!
