why are they having us wait to book dining reservations

Hello and welcome to planDisney, Christine. I'm glad you've stopped by with your question. My family and I visit Walt Disney World over Christmas every year so I know you are going to have a great time when you go!

I'm glad that you are already thinking about Advanced Dining Reservations for your trip in December, Christine. Currently, Guests are able to make dining reservations 60 days prior to the check-in date of their vacation. In the past, reservations were able to be made 180 days in advance but of course, many things have changed due to the pandemic. I think a lot of it had to do with the unknown, Christine. A big question in the beginning was, would Walt Disney World shut down again? If so, only have reservations for 60 days out cuts down on the number of people canceling and rescheduling. Also, many restaurants are still not yet open at Walt Disney World. However, we are slowly Returning to a World of Magic and we are finally seeing some of those beloved favorites open back up. I think all of this has contributed to the current policy about advanced dining reservations.

Like I mentioned, as of right now you are able to make advanced dining reservations 60 days prior to your vacation. You can make them online starting at 6:00 a.m. Mickey Mouse's time or over the phone by calling 407-WDW-DINE starting at 7:00 a.m.  Some of the best restaurants can fill up quickly, especially over such a busy time like Christmas. It's best to set your alarm and wake up early and be on your phone or computer right before 6:00 a.m. I like to use the MyDisneyExperience app to make my dining reservations. I think it's a faster process and I am usually very lucky with securing what I would like. If I did my math correctly, and you'll want to double check me on this, 60 days before your vacation is going to be Wednesday, October 24, 2021.

I hope you are able to make all of the advanced dining reservations your heart desires, Christine. If you have any other questions before your trip, please feel free to stop back by and ask me. I'm happy to help!

    Have a great day!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
