Hey there Michael, and welcome to planDisney!
Whenever any new technological advancements hit the
Disney Parks around the world, it can definitely feel like living through
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress as the latest iterations of products replace what was older - and perhaps more familiar. This is the case with MagicBands (also known outside of the United States as Disney Bands) as the previous generation now appears to have been nearly completely phased out in favor of
MagicBand+ instead.
On the Disney Store website
the MagicBand selection currently available to purchase all appear to be entirely
MagicBand+, which essentially has now become what you call the "regular" version at the US Disney Parks moving forward. (Though
listings for the previous MagicBand 2 still exist on the website, I imagine that they will eventually disappear completely as they are no longer available for sale.)
Since MagicBand+ does cost more to purchase since its initial release compared to its predecessors, I did observe how eagerly some guests tracked down the last remaining older MagicBands across the Disney Resort Hotel shops and theme parks - especially since they may still continue to function at the current time. If you do happen to be lucky and find some of these older MagicBands restocked online or in person, I hope you snag them while you can!
Here's to all of the latest advancements in technology and Imagineering for our Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow!
