why is the age 3-9 is child and 10and up are adult

    Hi Wendy,

This is an excellent question.  While I was not privy to the process Disney followed when they decided that guests ten and older would be classified as adults, I have a few ideas from a guest's perspective as to why this may be the case.

Children who are at least ten can typically avail themselves of all the rides and attractions in the Disney theme parks.  They are finally tall enough to ride even the thrill rides.  Many ten-year-olds also exhibit eating patterns similar to adults.  They'll be more adventurous eaters and will eat greater quantities of food.  I certainly witnessed that with my son.  They are truly ready for a full Disney theme park experience and therefore are expected to pay full adult admission prices.

Toddlers and infants, however, are not eligible to ride a significant number of rides in the parks and therefore are admitted for free.

Thanks for posting your thought-provoking question to the Moms Panel, Wendy!  I love this type of question.
