Cathy:
I love answering questions about Fort Wilderness. Many folks own lake, beach, or mountain homes but we consider the fort our second home--and for a whole lot less money and hassle.
There are
two pools at Fort Wilderness: the larger Meadow Pool located in the middle of the resort and the smaller Wilderness Pool near the cabins. At the Meadow Pool, you'll find a fun, themed slide and children's water-play area, kiddie pool and whirlpool. Its snack bar is an option on the Disney Dining Plan and is open from 11 to 5 p.m. The pool is well-lit at night and provides the backdrop to daily activities like bingo. Make sure and check the fort's activity guide that you're given at check-in for all of its offerings. Because of its size, the pool can be a bit noisy at peak times and children abound.
If you're looking for a pool experience that's a closer walk with less noise and splashing, consider the Wilderness Pool. Similar in size, although just a bit larger, than what you might find in someone's back yard, it's located near the Comfort Station between cabin loops 2500 and 2700 and has some shaded areas if you're not a fan of full sun. FYI: Currently, the picture that is listed on the Disney website as the Wilderness Pool is not correct.
You can walk to both pools from the cabin area, although if you find yourself on the outer rim of loops 2700 or 2800, you might opt to catch one of the cabin buses instead of walking to the Meadow Pool. If this is the case, choose a bus headed to the Settlement, not the Outpost, and hop off at the Meadow Trading Post bus stop. You will not be able to drive or park a car at either pool, but there is golf cart parking.
Feel free to come back and ask more questions as you're planning. I hope y'all have a magical vacation!
