Hi Whitney -- we are about to make our reservations. We used the program only 1x before. Would you pick the hoop dee doo review or Mickey's Backyard BBQ -- I struggle that they are worth 2 entitlments......are they worth it? Thanks.

    Eileen:

Even though the math makes "cents" on paper, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, at a cost of $44.99 for adults/$26.99 for children doesn't make common sense to me, unless you've got 2-to-1 children to adults on the plan.

The math: The dining plan currently costs $41.99 a day per adult. Take out $4 for an average snack and $10 for a quick-service meal leaving a value of $27.99 before gratuity. Subtract $5.60 for gratuity because Mickey's BBBQ includes it and you're left with a value of $22.39 for a table service credit to compare apples to apples. When you multiply this times two dining service credits all things "seem" equal, but the Disney Dining Plan touts that you can save up to 30%...and how many table service dinners cost $22.39 out of pocket?

Essentially, the value of your dining dollar on the dining plan will get you a lot more than all-you-can-eat hotdogs and Mickey Ice Cream Bars (as romantic as that sounds) at a table service restaurant than the BBQ....yes, you'll get a dance party with Mickey and the gang for your child at the BBQ and many folks like the complimentary beer, but I'm not sold on paying for it with the plan.

Hoop Dee Doo is slightly different. The dining plan can only be used for Category 2 and 3 seating at the first two shows of the evening; Category 1 dining at the 9:30 p.m. show.  That late show's a killer, unless you take an afternoon nap and snack a bit.  So the cost of Category 2 show is $56.99.  The food is better than the BBQ (ribs and chicken vs. hot dogs and hamburger fare) and it's air-conditioned and not prone to cancellation because of the weather.  Using our above math demo, there's a more value.

My conclusion (and based on the fact that I've used it for Hoop Dee Doo), I'd recommend the dining plan for Hoop Dee Doo but not Mickey's Backyard BBQ.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
