Hi Whitney planning Nov 2010 for MVMCP was told u are expert on FW cabins. My ? is regarding the pool. Is the kid pool just a slide or is it like the CBR kid pool? 4 yo DS would love CBR pool but wanted space of cabin for 1 yo DD esp for naps

    Sandy:

Thanks for the compliment!  Don't know if I'm an "expert," but our family sure has spent a lot of time at what we consider our home-away-from-home, Fort Wilderness!

Disney just completed a renovation of the fort's pool.  Our kids enjoyed it just last month, (the same time you'll be going next year), especially its new circular slide and jacuzzi.  Our recently-turned 5-year-old spent a good bit of time at the water play station, very similar to the one at Caribbean Beach Resort.

From a parent's perspective, the pool at CBR is probably more well-themed--afterall, it's hard to beat a pirate ship!  However, from a child's perspective, especially since the waterplay areas are almost exactly the same, and both have fun, long slides, both experiences would be memorable. And if we're talking about memories, I bet your 4-year-old will remember the campfire with Chip 'n' Dale at the fort as well as being able to enjoy the outdoors as much as he would the bridge of the pirate ship....

The cincher, though, is the one-year-old.  Having the extra space in the cabins with the ability to close a door to the bedroom is HUGE.  When toddlers are tired, they get cranky.  When parents can't get a toddler to nap, THEY get cranky.  Our family has been able to justify the slightly higher price by making a few meals in the full-size kitchens of the cabins.  Your vacation at Fort Wilderness will likely be drastically different from the hotels, as it provides a more quiet, relaxed ambience.  PLUS: the fall is a wonderful time at the fort.  That's why it gets my vote.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Whitney, Mississippi

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
