Hi Deborah, welcome to planDisney!
I love runDisney and I have seen many wheelchair participants during the events I have participated in. The
Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend has been one of my favorite events I've participated in so far. I wasn’t sure about the procedure for registering as an Athlete with a Disability, so I enjoyed researching the answer to your question.
I reached out to a Cast Member with runDisney and was told that when you register online, you will indicate on your registration form that you are using a wheelchair. If you have already registered and did not indicate that you will be using a wheelchair, you can reach out to runDisney via email at runDisney@disneysports.com.
If you are using a wheelchair in a runDisney race, you must use a push-rim racing wheelchair or a handcycle chair. Motorized wheelchairs, all-terrain wheelchairs, and knee scooters are not permitted.
Another registered participant may assist you as a Human Race Guide, but they must indicate this on their individual race registration.
Registered athletes with a disability may also request a race guide provided by runDisney. To request a guide for your event, contact runDisney@disneysports.com no later than 90 days before your event.
I hope this was helpful, Deborah. As I said earlier, I love runDisney and I was able to learn something new about runDisney events thanks to your question! If you have any future questions, whether they're runDisney or vacation planning related, please
reach out to me again at planDisney!
Wishing you many magical miles,
Kaitlin
