Hi, Lenny!
I’m so glad you visited planDisney with this question. There are many services and strategies available at the
Disneyland Resort to help
Guests with disabilities maximize their time in the theme parks and have a magical experience with their families!
If an
attraction queue is wide and flat enough to accommodate a wheelchair or other mobility device, you can proceed through to the end and a Cast Member can hold it for you at the loading area while you experience the attraction. There are attractions that load or unload at an alternate location or on different sides of the ride vehicle, so in some cases you may need to use another entrance even if your wheelchair could otherwise fit in the queue. You may also be given a return time based on the current wait time to experience an attraction rather than waiting in the regular standby line. Just check with a Cast Member at the beginning of each queue and they can provide guidance on the proper procedure for you and your group.
The resort attractions offer access assistance in various categories, including those that are fully accessible and those that require you to transfer from the wheelchair. You can view
what specific kind of access is offered for every attraction by visiting Disneyland.com before your visit, or you can stop at City Hall in Disneyland Park or the Chamber of Commerce in Disney California Adventure Park once you arrive to speak with a Guest Services Cast Member. They can help you with assessing the accessibility and comfort of each attraction specific to your individual situation. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how much you’re able to experience!
There are also some exciting entertainment options that don't require getting in and out of a ride vehicle at all, although you’ll still feel immersed in magic!
Walt Disney's Enchanted Tiki Room in Disneyland Park is a theater-in-the-round attraction that allows Guests to experience the beauty of the Pacific Islands and sing along with a lively collection of Audio-Animatronic exotic birds, flowers and tikis without stepping onto a moving vehicle. There is also a little-known alternate viewing area at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage so Guests who can’t navigate the narrow spiral staircase into a submarine can see the experience from a special topside viewing room!
I hope this helps you plan, Lenny. Please don’t hesitate to visit us again with more questions as your pixie-dusted vacation approaches!
Wishing you magic,
Courtney
