We've cruised with DCL twice, and love all of the options for shore adventures! What do you suggest doing in Key West? There'll be two 9 yr. olds going. I've never been, and don't know how big the city is. We're considering the electric car tour. THANKS!

    Hi Misty,

Welcome to the Moms Panel!  I am really looking forward to our return trip to Key West on our next Disney Cruise.  The first time we visited, we booked a port adventure through the cruise line and had a wonderful time.  However, upon seeing the small size of the city I got the feeling that this would be a very comfortable port to explore on our own, so that is what we'll be doing next time.

There is plenty of local flavor to experience within walking distance to the ship.  You mentioned an electric car tour, and I know that Key West Pirate Rentals rents electric cars and will pick up/drop off at the pier for no charge.

A few other things that are within walking distance that may hold the interest of nine year olds are the Shipwreck Museum and Pirate Soul Museum.  Both of these offer discounts if you purchase your tickets online before you go.

One of the other visitor favorites is the Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, which is a bit longer of a walk and may worthy of getting a cab.

Now just a small word of caution, Duval Street is the place where the people come to party - so although it will have lively atmosphere and is plenty appropriate during the day, in the evening the party mood sets in and it may feel a bit inappropriate for younger children.

I hope this helps, have a wonderful time!
