We’d like to buy annual passes and make reservations for this coming weekend. What is the new annual pass called and how do we activate our cards.

Hey there, Jeffrey! Thanks so much for taking the time to bring your question to planDisney.

The new annual pass program that was started last year is the Magic Key program. It was released with four different passes, three available for all Guests and one exclusive pass for southern California residents. If you are interested in purchasing Magic Keys, you can check out the passes that are currently available and decide which Magic Key is best for you. Tip: Make sure you are signed in to your account so you can see if you qualify for the Imagine Pass. Once you've made your purchase, you should receive your confirmation email with your pass ID numbers within 24 hours. Then you can download the Disneyland app and add the pass ID numbers to your account. With the introduction of the Magic Key Passes, physical pass cards are no longer a part of the program. The digital pass in the Disneyland app is all you will need to scan into the parks each time and scanned at locations to unlock your discount.

Before you purchase your passes, I recommend checking the Magic Key Access Calendar to see which days are block-out days and if there are available reservations still for the day you are hoping to visit. This month is filling up fast. If the day is not available, you can see if the day is available for a single-day ticket. If there is availability for tickets, you can purchase the ticket to get a reservation for that day. At the end of your visit to the parks, you can use the purchase price of that ticket to upgrade to a Magic Key Pass. This must be done before midnight on the day of your stay. I recommend doing it after you are done in the parks for the day because when you upgrade it will cancel your reservation.

Jeffrey, I hope you have some success getting tickets or passes and a reservation for your day. Pro Tip: I recommend looking the night before. I've had success many times finally getting a reservation late at night for the next day for my Magic Key pass when Magic Key holders finally decide to cancel their reservations.

Thanks again for stopping by planDisney!

I love helping my friends plan memorable trips to Disneyland Resort and can't wait to help you too! Learn More About Carrie
