Hi Chelsea!
Welcome aboard planDisney, and thank you for trusting us with your personal question. I’m so excited to hear that you have a special
Disney Cruise Line vacation planned for early fall – based on your sail date, it seems you will be onboard the beautiful
Disney Dream or the new
Disney Wish. My family loved our
Halloween on the High Seas cruise, and I know you will too! I’m happy to help you and your husband understand what to expect for his comfort onboard. Let’s get him away from channeling his favorite dwarf, Grumpy, and into thinking about the “fun stuff”! Inclusion is a core value at Disney, and I’m proud to share that everyone, no matter their size or ability, is as welcome as can be.
I spent some time researching this for you to be certain, but I’m pleased to share that
at this time there are no weight restrictions for any of the onboard water slides, the AquaDuck, the AquaMouse, nor Pelican Plunge. Rather, any safety policies for these are detailed in minimum heights for children's safety or enjoying the slides without an adult. I spoke with a kind Cast Member today who shared an example that her husband weighs around 300 pounds and he has enjoyed all the water slides and Pelican Plunge on their past cruises, if that helps you for this scenario. My family has sailed on four Disney ships (all but the Disney Wish), and I have always seen a great diversity of Guests enjoying everything onboard. Sometimes, the AquaDuck even requires two people or a higher Guest weight in each raft during windy days at sea for our safety.
The water slides onboard the ships finish your adventure in a shallow pool to stand up or dismount from the raft to walk back to the pool deck. On
Disney Castaway Cay, Pelican Plunge drops you into the ocean water which was deeper than I expected. Guests should be able to swim to the beach or there are life vests available before you enter the water to begin your queue at the Pelican Plunge platform. Of course, Disney lifeguards are available in teams around any water activities.
The only time I’ve seen advertised Guest weight limits are for certain
Port Adventures, Chelsea. This will be clearly listed on the details for any specific adventure as you research prior to signing up. In my experience this has always been for activities such as zip lining where Guests are supported by a particular structure or require certain safety equipment with a set limit.
I hope this helps put your husband’s mind at ease and gets him ready for an
awesome adventure at sea! From Broadway-caliber entertainment to beautiful ports of call, there’s
so much to enjoy.
Please let us know how we can help you both make the most of this special vacation by sending in any additional questions you may have. We love to share our favorite tips and experiences, and hopefully that excitement will be contagious for your husband as your cruise nears.
Wishing you a magical sailing,
Amy
