Hi Valerie! Christmas at Walt Disney World Resort!!! Best. Day. Ever.
We have been multiple times on and around Christmas and the weather has been different each year. We have worn everything from shorts and t-shirts to scarves and gloves. Like you, we are from Texas. During the times we were wearing scarves and gloves, there were other Guests from colder climates swimming - so it's all relative. I would prepare for light rain but hope for sunny skies. From what we have experienced over the past few years, it has rained on and off during December. We typically pack rain gear with us on our vacation and then check out the weather forecast daily to see if we need to bring it with us each day.
There are attractions both inside and outside. It is rare that an attraction is closed due to rain but safety is the number one concern for Disney Parks Cast Members so some attractions will close in case of rain. If there is lightning, others will be closed as well. The attractions will open again as soon as the weather clears and it is safe to do so.
You are going to love spending the Christmas holiday at Walt Disney World Resort. There are countless holiday events to take part in, such at
Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party. Plus, the decorations are amazing. True Disney magic. It's a very popular time to visit the Disney Parks so I encourage you to plan as much as possible and be at the theme parks at park opening or as early as you can.
You will also want to visit several of the Resort hotels as they are also decorated beautifully for the holidays. My favorite Resort hotel at Christmas is the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. There, you can visit a life size Gingerbread House that will delight all of your senses. Enjoy!
