Bright suns, Naiya and welcome to planDisney!
Happy Halfway to Halloween - I'm writing to you from some place
far, far away at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, watching Stormtroopers make their way past alongside citizens of Black Spire Outpost and interplanetary visitors alike
dressed in their Batuu-exploring best.
Last year we completely dressed up in costumes that I designed for
Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and loved seeing fellow revelers attending the evening in intricately crafted outfits - including several Mandalorian-inspired looks!
We recently released our planDisney Tips and Tricks for costuming, and it's always good to check in advance to see whether any part of your overall look might contradict one of
the costume guidelines or attire policies.
Some of the major ones that might apply to your armor include the following:
- Layered costumes or costume props that surround the entire body are strongly discouraged and may be subject to additional security screening.
- Capes may be worn if the length does not go below the waist.
- Costume masks of any kind may not be worn.
When it comes to additional screening, my husband and I both beeped as we walked through the scanner and had a security team member carefully look through our costumes to make sure that they were safe and met the guidelines - we noticed that this was the same procedure for anyone passing through with bulky or metallic parts to their costume. We also noticed some folks in various armor walking through with no issues and discovered that this was because they were made of a mixture of cloth, foam and resin pieces! While some Mandalorian factions strictly follow the Creed and never remove their helmets in front of other beings, unfortunately only those aged 13 and under may keep them on. We saw many folks carrying their heavy helmets around and even cleverly using them to hold their bags of Trick-or-Treat candy! If you pose for a
Disney PhotoPass Photographer it may be worth asking if you can put your helmet on quickly just for the photo, like folks have been able to do
on board the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser and removing it after.
If I can give any advice when it comes to costuming, it's that policies may be subject to change without prior notice and sometimes it will ultimately be up to the member of the security team and their leadership on the day to determine whom they may refuse entry to. If you ever have any questionable elements, always bring a backup option - we've found ourselves quickly changing in a large restroom on at least one occasion just in case!
The Armorer would be proud of your ability to craft Mandalorian armor as in the traditions befitting The Great Forge of Mandalore, whether made from beskar or not. Don't forget to come back to planDisney whenever you'd like to
ask me anything else ahead of your next adventure!
This is The Way.
