Hi Waiel,
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for asking us a question!
No matter when you choose to visit Walt Disney World Resort, there is always one constant: how much walking you’ll be doing while you visit the Theme Parks! During some particularly active days, I can walk well over 20,000 steps, which is a whole lot for someone who works at a desk when she isn’t on vacation.
You can absolutely wear flip flops during your upcoming visit to
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. That said, if you aren’t used to wearing flip flops or if you need more support when you walk a lot in a day, you may want to consider another type of footwear. I do actually wear flip flops during my Disney Days, but they’re typically sports “recovery” sandals, with support and tons of cushioning.
My recommendation: pick the kind of shoes that you would wear if you were going for a very long walk or if you were engaging in a moderately active sport. That might be your best bet, especially if you aren’t used to walking long distances in a day. I also recommend bringing another pair of “park” shoes with you on your vacation. That way, if one pair gives you blisters or proves to be less comfortable, you’ll be able to try something else!
One of the best ways I’ve found to beat the Disney heat and to make sure that every step remains magical is to plan frequent breaks throughout my day to rest and refuel. One of my favourite places to do so in all of Walt Disney World Resort happens to be at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park: the
Nomad Lounge! Be sure to check it out and, if the menu looks good, add yourself to the “Walk Up” List when you arrive.
Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help!
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
