Hi. We are going to be at WDW from 12/27/24-1/1/25. We are wondering which parks would be best on which days? Which parks have special shows for New Years?

Hi there Caroline, I'm happy to welcome you to planDisney!

Planning a trip for that final week in December can be in my opinion, one of the most challenging ways to experience the theme parks for the unprepared - especially if you're coming with little ones. Luckily you've come to us here at planDisney where we use insight from the Cast Members about the most popular days over the holidays and compare them against the data and experiences of fellow guests, so I'm happy to help you strategize a great game plan to end 2024 in Disney style:

    • December 28 & 29: This year these two days fall on the weekend, which is typically when a big spike of locals head to the theme parks and EPCOT in particular. Your best bet would be to aim for Disney's Hollywood Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park on these days which statistically aren't as busy as the other two on the weekend.
    • December 30: Last year, Magic Kingdom Park featured displays of Fantasy in the Sky fireworks on both December 30 and 31, at 6:30 P.M. and 11:50 P.M. On this day and the next, Lightning Lane Passes are highly recommended as a way to avoid lengthier waits though it's important to take note that since prices vary by date - they may be even higher during this very popular week.
    • December 31: EPCOT is the place to be in order to experience all of the New Year's Eve-exclusive festivities, but thousands of other guests often have the same idea and flock in droves to spend their night with the DJ dance parties and fireworks - Luminous The Symphony of Us as well as an epic finale right before midnight to ring in the new year. (Similar to the previous day, you should expect long waits for attractions, dining locations and even restrooms as a tradeoff for a big night of revelry!)
    • January 1: While some may be sleeping off the fun of the previous late night, this would be your chance to head to the theme parks early before the crowds pick up by midday.
Since offerings are subject to change without prior notice, I definitely recommend checking the Hours & Events Calendar and the Disney Parks Blog as well as the My Disney Experience app closer to your visit (especially as New Year's Eve entertainment hasn't yet been confirmed at the time of writing in mid-October).

Here's hoping you'll be able to strategize and tackle this busy week in the smartest way possible!
