I am going to WDW in 2 weeks and we are traveling with 2 scooters. Do you know of any other transportation besides the buses that can accommodate Disney guests. We are staying at the Contemporary Resort. We are looking for alternative than bus.

    Hello Margaret!

Welcome back to planDisney! Your visit is just around the riverbend, and you must be getting excited! While buses are the most common form of transportation for those with scooters, multiple other transportation options can accommodate you.

If you are specifically looking for transportation from Disney’s Contemporary Resort to Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, currently the only option is to utilize Disney's Bus Service. But there are many other fun ways to get around the resort depending on where you are and where you are headed!

From Disney’s Contemporary Resort, you can drive your scooter to Magic Kingdom along the walking path, or use the Resort Monorail. While the Monorail is not currently stopping at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, it does make stops at the Transportation and Ticket Center and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa before arriving at the Magic Kingdom. This is a great option if you’d like to dine at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

While not all watercraft can accommodate a scooter, there are several styles of water transportation that do. The Walt Disney World Ferry Boat between the Transportation and Ticket Center and Magic Kingdom can, as well as the larger boats between Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Both larger and smaller boats service these stops and you don’t know which boat will be arriving, so know that you may need to wait for the larger style boats to arrive. Also, if water levels are exceptionally high or low, boarding for scooters may not be possible. I recommend chatting with the first boat captain that arrives to make sure conditions are right. The Friendship Boats between Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot can also accommodate scooters, and this is a lovely and relaxing way to hop between these parks. Service along this line reopened in November! While boat transportation to Disney Springs traditionally uses accessible boats, these routes are not currently operating.

If you’ll be hopping between Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can also consider the new Disney Skyliner which can also accommodate a scooter. Since it is one scooter per gondola, you should plan on breaking your group up into two smaller parties to use the Disney Skyliner.

I hope this helps as you make your plans, Margaret. I applaud you for thinking this out in advance, you sound a lot like me! I always prefer to know my plan going in than to wing-it at the last moment. For other helpful information for Guests with scooters, I recommend a visit to Disney’s Services for Guests with Mobility Disabilities Page.

Wishing you a truly magical visit to the Walt Disney World Resort!
