WDW veterans, family of four (DD12, DD10). Considering a 2014 visit to California to include a few days at DL. Could travel in July or first 3 weeks of October. Which do you recommend and why? Also visiting Yosemite, Monterey Bay Aquarium. Thank you!

    Hi, Mary!

I’m glad to hear you’re planning to visit “The Happiest Place on Earth” next year! There’s so much magic to discover at the theme parks, especially with the addition of Cars Land in Disney California Adventure Park and Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort typically occurs from mid-September through October 31, so you should be able to enjoy all of the spooktacular extras it brings if you visit during that time. Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a festive private event open only to special ticket holders, and in the past it has featured music and dancing, crafts, lots of characters for photo opportunities, the Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular, and many treat stations for kids. The best part is that everyone in the family can wear a Halloween costume—even the adults!

During September (after Labor Day) through mid-October, crowds are lighter (especially on weekdays) and hotel prices are often lower. Do keep in mind that park hours may be shorter and there can be more attraction closures due to refurbishment than during times of peak attendance, but it should be easier to experience most of your “must-do” attractions, shows and meals due to smaller queues and fewer Guests visiting the parks. If long park hours, warmer weather for pool time, and a bustling entertainment schedule are at the top of your list of priorities, then a July visit to California may be a better fit for your family.
I hope this information helps you make your decision, Mary, and that you enjoy a wonderfully pixie-dusted visit to the Disneyland Resort!

    Wishing you magic,
    Courtney
