I am going to WDW with two other adults and a 10-year-old. She is afraid of some of the rides. Can she line up with us and then skip the ride and wait at the exit for us?

    Hi Stephanie,

Thanks for visiting Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

What I love about Walt Disney World is that there are attractions that every Guest can enjoy no matter their thrill-seeking nature. I think it's perfectly understandable that the 10-year old in your group would want to skip some attractions. I remember bringing our little Mouseketeer to Walt Disney World over so many years when he eyed some attractions with a bit of apprehension, and how with each visit he grew more eager to ride attractions that were new experiences for him. There's a phrase you'll hear often as you make your way around the theme parks — "for the comfort and safety of each Guest" — and I think that's because both comfort and safety are given a great deal of focus. In fact, if you ever take Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour, you'll hear that safety is the first of the four keys for making the magic happen. Guests can choose not to board an attraction after they've stood in the queue. What I can share with you, Stephanie, is what I know to be the general rule — children under age 14 must be accompanied by a Guest age 14 or older within the theme parks. One suggestion for your group is to explore the Rider Switch service that would allow one of the adults to accompany the 10-year old and wait with her, and then return to board the attraction without waiting in the standby line.

Stephanie, here's wishing you all a magical Walt Disney World vacation.

    Enjoy your Disney!

Meet the Panelist: Jerry, Pennsylvania

The playful and creative optimism of all things Disney has enthralled me since I was a kid. I loved watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights, seeing all the live-action and animated classics in theaters, and — of course — visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" for the first time 45 years ago. These days, the big kid in me still loves to play Disney. As a long-time Disney destinations vacationer, I'm looking forward to helping you play Disney starting here at planDisney!
