Have been to WDW several times in past when fast pass was used, now i see they use genie+ which could cost our family of 4 an extra $200 or more a day for 5 days just to reduce wait time in lines, could someone explain this, wanted to come in July.Thanks.PG

    Hi Phillip,

    Welcome to planDisney!

Of course, I have to say I am happy to see you planning early for your visit! I hear your concerns with the expense. The decision really depends on a few different factors. For various reasons, my family cannot tolerate extended wait times in lines. So, Disney Genie+ is a great value for us at Magic Kingdom and Disney's Hollywood Studios because we have so many favorite attractions at those two parks. Keep in mind that you can purchase Disney Genie+ for specific parks, not every park that you will visit during your trip. My suggestion would be to take a few minutes to review the list of eligible attractions for Disney Genie+ in each park and determine which ones would be on your family's must-do list prior to making a decision.

Know also that you can purchase Individual Lightning Lane access for certain attractions. I have done so if we missed getting virtual queue access for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Tron/Lightcyle Run. Given the day, the cost of an Individual Lightning Lane may be comparable to that of Disney Genie+. Your decision will depend on which attractions are must-do's for your family!

When we use Disney Genie+, one of our teenagers is in charge. She books all of the attractions for us and is good about remembering to book so that we maximize the day. Of course, you could decide to forego purchasing Disney Genie+ and just keep an eye on attraction wait times during the day. Given the time of year you are traveling, I would also consider the weather. We have gone quite a few times in July and it has been HOT. So, we have typically done the parks in the morning, returned to the resort hotel for a break in the afternoon, and gone back to the parks in the evening.

Phillip, I hope this gives you some additional thoughts to help make the decision that is best for your family! Happy planning!

    Magic and memories,
