Going to WDW in Sept. Has anyone who has done the pick a pearl had it set into a necklace or ring? Anyone have any idea on the cost range for that? Wondering it it's worth doing that or just bringing the pearls home to our local jeweler.

Hi Cynthia, My daughter and I each pick a pearl on every trip since she's been 2 years old (it's definitely one of our favorite memories and traditions at WDW). Out of all the pearls we have picked (approximately 25), we have only had 3 of them put into settings on the spot. It really depends on the quality of the pearl for us and 3 of them were extremely large and the color quite rare (silver/pink, blue and black). For this reason we wanted a setting for them and the memory of getting one from WDW was also a factor. The price range can go anywhere from about $40.00 up to hundreds of dollars depending on if it's 10 carat or 14 carat gold and how much gold is in the piece (I think their prices for settings at WDW are somewhat similar and fair compared to jewellers in your hometown, so it all depends on if you want some of those special settings that can only be found in WDW to bring home with you). The other pearls we have gotten, we took home and are keeping to make a nice necklace out of when we have enough saved up. They will dry up and possibly crack if not handled (they need the oil from your skin to remain supple), so just make sure if you bring them home that once in a while you rub them around in your hands so they get this much needed oil to stay healthy. I think this is a great tradition to start, but beware! This becomes somewhat of an addiction although it is a fun addiction to have. Good luck in finding one of those beautiful rare pearls and Aloha! Best wishes, Brigitta
