I have never been to WDW and we are going to be passing through. We are only going to be able to stay a day. Our plans are to visit MK and Epcot. My question is should we go ahead and buy tickets or wait till we get there or buy at the gate?

Emily since you are visiting for such a short time I would suggest you wait and buy your tickets at the gate.  Generally the lines are not unbearably long and this will give you the option to decide where you want to go.  To do both parks on one day will be tough as there is so much to see at each.  You can certainly get a taste by going to both but that will mean paying  for two parks.
