Hi, Patricia! Thank you for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
The Walt Disney Company was founded by Walter E. Disney and Roy O. Disney, two brothers who both served their country during World War I. The Walt Disney Company has always had a strong connection to the armed services and takes pride in saluting those who have served.
The Walt Disney World Resort takes time to thank veterans for their service and dedication to our country during the daily
Flag Retreat ceremony in
Magic Kingdom Park. During this moving, patriotic ceremony, guests gather in town square on Main Street, U.S.A. and watch as the American flag is lowered in order to retire for the night.
The Main Street Philharmonic plays "The Star Spangled Banner" and "God Bless America" as members of the Color Guard remove the flag from the staff, fold it, and present it to a special Guest veteran.
In past years, a special version of the Flag Retreat ceremony was held on Veterans Day. During the Veterans Day Flag Retreat, several Walt Disney World Resort Cast Members who had served in the military were honored. Be sure to follow the
Disney Parks Blog to hear if any additional Veterans Day events are planned for this year.
Wishing you a wonderful Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
Samantha
