Hi! We'll be at WDW next week during the wine and food festival - SO excited! We have the dining plan and I read somewhere that there was a change to the plan in 2015 that you could substitute an appetizer instead of a dessert... is that correct?

Hi Susan! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

This is such a great question as there have been some changes to the way that the Disney Dining plan works. In my opinion these changes are for the better as they seem to offer a lot more flexibility to Guests!

You cannot substitute a dessert for an appetizer off of the restaurant menu. It is my understanding that when available however, you will be able to substitute a dessert for a fruit plate, side salad, or cup of soup. Please note that it is not guaranteed that these substitutions will be available at each dining location. My Disney Parks Moms Panel Sister Kate answered a similar question to yours and I really think she explains all of these new dining changes really well!

The Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is one of my favorite events to visit. There are so many delicious and unique food and beverage options, I find myself visiting more than once on each trip I take during this time! I always challenge myself to try something that I wouldn’t normally try so I encourage you to do the same! You never know what your taste buds may like!

I hope that you have a wonderful time! See ya real soon!
