We are going to WDW in May. We arrive a little before noon on Saturday the 21st and depart Thursday at 5:30. We'd like to hit all the parks while there. What do you suggest we do the day we arrive? Should we go to a park or do something else?

Hi, Kimberly! Planning how to start your Walt Disney World Resort vacation is a huge decision. There are so many exciting ways to kick start an #Unforgettable stay. I have a few ideas for you, along with a sure-fire way to help you make your decision.

If you do not want to use one of the days on your theme park tickets, head to Disney Springs for shopping, fun, and fantastic eats. My favorite shops to visit are the Marketplace Co-op and the newly expanded World of Disney. You could spend the afternoon bowling at Splitsville Luxury Lanes before claiming ice cream as a dinner at Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Soda Shop.

Completed check-in at your Resort and you find yourself melting on a hot, sunny May day? Head to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park for a wild ride down Crush 'N' Gusher or to float around Castaway Creek. Be sure to stop by Happy Landings Ice Cream for the coolest Sand Pail Sundae around. Just grab a shovel and dig in!

Need a bit of instant magic? Then do like we do and hop on the next Magic Kingdom bus you see. Nothing gets us in the vacation state of mind faster than passing under the train tunnel and spying Cinderella Castle for the first time. You can complete a few FastPass+ selections ahead of your visit to help you make the most of your first magical day.

So, Kimberly, are you still stuck? Take a look at a really fun Disney Parks Blog entry that provides a great flowchart to help you decide how to spend your first Disney day. Water park, Magic Kingdom, Epcot, wherever … it’s totally up to you how to let your #DisneySide shine on your first Disney day.
