At WDW 09/10-09/20 and I know to expect poss thunderstorms. I read that WP's close during thunderstorms. We're planning all day at WP if there is a thunderstorm do they close WP and make everybody leave the park or can we wait it out inside park, help?

    Hi Kim,

Rain won't shut down a water park, but thunder will. If a storm is coming, there will usually be an announcement that there is a thunderstorm warning. They will make people exit the water and shut down all slides, but you don't have to leave the park. There is minimal shelter, but if you wait it out, you could end up with a virtually empty park.

If, for some reason, they close the park and make everyone leave because the storm is expected to last the rest of the day, they will most likely issue a rain check to come back another day.

Hope this helps. Have a magical vacation!

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
