We are going to WDW in January 2012. We've narrowed down our resorts to the Caribbean Beach and the Wilderness Lodge. Is the Wilderness Lodge really worth the extra $600? There will be 5 of us (2 adults, a 9 year old, a 7 year old and a 2 year old).

    Hi Lee:

Wilderness Lodge, themed after the American Northwest, is considered a deluxe Resort providing more amenities.  It features a breathtaking 7-story lobby and great restaurants.  One of the best parts of staying at the Wilderness Lodge is that there is boat transportation to the Magic Kingdom. The boat ride to the Magic Kingdom takes about 10 minutes. Boats are generally scheduled to depart every 20 minutes, but often set sail more frequently.

Caribbean Beach Resort is expertly themed also, but has a "bigger" and more of a "bustling" feel for me. Indeed, because the Resort is so large and spread out, you may have to take inner-Resort transportation staying at Caribbean Beach, so I generally only recommend staying there if you have a car. The big advantage Caribbean Beach Resort has is its price and awesome main pool, featuring a pirate theme and water slides.

Whether the $600 is worth it likely depends on your budget (I would not bust a budget for any Resort), whether you have a car, and perhaps how much time you plan to spend at Magic Kingdom. With young children with you, Wilderness Lodge may be worth it for the transportation advantage.

    Enjoy your vacation.
