We will be at WDW Jan 15-19. I know MLK weekend will most likely be a bit busier than another weekend in January. We are planning to visit parks 3 days. Are the crowds typically heavier on MLK day itself, or just the preceeding weekend? Thanks!

Hi Meredith! How wonderful that you will be visiting the Walt Disney World Resort during the first month of the new year! Park attendance is typically heaviest when school is out and families vacation together. I would say that both the preceding weekend, as well as, Martin Luther King Day itself will see greater numbers of guests than later in January. However, I wouldn't let this deter you from visiting the Walt Disney World Resort with your family. As a simple three days touring plan, I would recommend visiting Epcot on Martin Luther King Day, Magic Kingdom on Tuesday January 18th, and Disney's Hollywood Studios on Wednesday January 19th. If you prefer to tour the parks during the holiday weekend, then I would suggest visiting Disney's Hollywood Studios on Saturday January 15th, Magic Kingdom on Sunday January 16th, and Epcot on Martin Luther King Day. I would recommend being at each park early for Rope-Drop opening ceremonies. If you are a Disney Resort guest you can even take advantage of morning and evening Extra Magic Hours. You will be amazed at how much you can get accomplished in the morning before the general-public is admitted to the parks. In addition, if you have Magic Your Way Park Hopper tickets you will be able to visit more than one theme park on the same day. Therefore, if your touring plan is not measuring up to your standards you can always 'hop' to another theme park with fewer guests. Animal Kingdom is a wonderful alternative to any of the above mentioned theme parks too. I'm certain that you will enjoy your time at the Walt Disney World Resort during your vacation.
