We were going to WDW for the first for my son's 2nd bday for 4 days in April. How much in advance should we get the park ticket? What type of Disney park ticket should we get? Does the ticket price change if we get it earlier? Is the ticket set afor a date

    Hi Jan -

First time to Disney, now that's a way to celebrate a birthday!  You can purchase your park passes at any time.  I like to get them before I leave, so that everything is loaded on to my resort room key.  It just makes travel so much easier for our family; that way we don't have to stand in line to purchase tickets on our first trip into the park.  Tickets are the same price whenever you purchase them, so don't worry about missing out on a deal if you choose to wait to get them.

If you are a AAA cardholder.  You can often get discount tickets.  These MUST be purchased in advance directly from your AAA office.

I'm a big fan of adding the Park Hopper option on to the Magic Your Way base ticket, especially since this is your first time in a Disney park.  It just gives you so much more flexibility.  For instance, say your child is an early bird, so you take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours.  You go on a couple of attractions, and then notice that around lunch time the park seems unusually crowded; with the park hopper, you have the option of going to a DIFFERENT park on the same day.

The tickets are not set for a date; however unless you purchase the no expiration option, they will expire 14 days after their first use.  Unless I know I'm coming back and purchase a 10 day ticket to save money, I don't usually add this option to my ticket.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
