We are going to WDw at the end of May. How do you get your Veteran to help with the flag retreat? I would love to surprise my boys and daughter in law by having them help with this special moment and have their children & us witness it.

Hi, Teresa! Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

In the past, veterans were able to volunteer to participate in the Flag Retreat, a patriotic lowering and folding of the flag on Main Street, U.S.A., during a medley of military songs and trumpet fanfares which happens each night at 5:00 pm. This procedure, however, has since changed and it is now a random Guest veteran who is selected. This selection, I am told, usually takes place during or close to Magic Kingdom Theme Park’s opening. I suggest that you arrive at the Theme Park’s opening and that your veteran family member wears clothing that is distinctive military in order to increase chances of being selected. Also, it doesn’t hurt to chat-up the Cast Members at the turnstiles and throughout Main Street, U.S.A., you could even ask them how you can go about being selected or if they have selected anyone for that day yet.

I truly hope that your veteran is chosen as it certainly sounds like a moment that would be filled with pride and Pixie Dust! I hope you come back to see us here real soon and that you have a magical day,
