We will be in WDW in early March, 2009. We would like to rent a car for a day and drive to a nearby beach so our 5-year-old can see the ocean. What FL beaches would be closest and warmest? Is the water warm enough to swim in March? Thanks-Love your forum!

Hi Michele!  What a wondrous vacation for your five year old son to not only come to Walt Disney World but to also see the ocean for the first time!

Florida beaches are open all year and it is more of a personal idea if they are warm enough to swim in. I love it very warm but my children could always tolerate it much cooler.  In any case you can enjoy the warmth of the Florida sun while sitting on the sand!  Click here to see good descriptions for some of the beaches that are within 1-3 hours from the parks of Orlando.  Since Orlando is basically situated in the center of the state you have the option to visit either the east or the west coast.  The east coast tends to be about 30 minutes closer and it is the ocean...west coast is the gulf coast.  But many prefer the west coast as it is very beautiful.  Enjoy reading the descriptions and picking the best beach for your interest.  Have a wonderful time and hopefully you will find a special shell to bring home!
