Hi Kathy, welcome back to planDisney, and thank you for bringing us another great question. Early December is one of my favorite times to visit
Walt Disney World Resort. The weather is great, the crowds are manageable before the big holiday push, and the holiday decorations bring an extra level of magic to each of the parks.
EPCOT’s Candlelight Processional is a personal favorite, and the seasonal entertainment sprinkled throughout each park is worth making time for.
Disney really does an outstanding job making sure every Guest can enjoy their vacation to the fullest, and that certainly applies to those using mobility devices. You’ll find that many attractions allow Guests to remain in their wheelchairs or ECVs, while others may require a transfer either into a standard wheelchair or into the ride vehicle itself. The best way to prepare is to visit the
Walt Disney World accessibility site and focus on the mobility section. When you click on “Learn More” within the “Experiencing Attractions with a Mobility Device” area, you’ll be taken to a page that lists attractions by category, such as “May Remain in Wheelchair/ECV” or “Must Transfer.” To make it even easier, you can narrow down the list by selecting “Accessibility & Advisories” at the top of that page and checking the criteria that match your group’s needs.
From the details you’ve shared, I feel confident that your family will be able to experience the vast majority of attractions across the resort. When you arrive at each attraction, I’d also recommend speaking with the Cast Members at the entrance. They’ll let you know how far into the queue you can take the scooters and walk you through any transfer needs. In my experience, they go out of their way to make sure you feel comfortable and informed before you board.
I hope this gives you peace of mind as you plan your trip. If you’d like, I’d be glad to share more about
Rider Switch, the
Lightning Lane Multi Pass, or other tips for navigating the parks with a large group. Just swing back by planDisney and
send me another question directly.
See you real soon!
