Going to WDW in 9 days for our 1st time! I have a 6yo girl & an 8yo boy. What do I say when they ask if the characters are real? (Esp. the face characters?) I know my DD will ask if the princesses are truly legitimate. Thanks for any suggestions!!

    Hi Jody!

What a great question! Well...let me start off by saying that my kids are 2 and 5. They are both slightly scared of the characters (costume more than the face) so I have always told them they are just costumes. That they aren't the "real" princesses, Mickey, etc. because Mickey and Princesses are fictional themselves! But they are fun characters for us to pretend with!

But that doesn't make the magic any less for my kids (or me for that matter)! We made up specific questions for each Princess (we asked Mulan about her lucky cricket, Snow White about Dopey and told Belle we liked to read). The princesses answered our questions and then continued on in fun and long conversations! So, my daughter (5) didn't need to ask if they were real or not--she knew they weren't...but at the same time, they were as real as they could be!

Even when I went to Disney last time with some friends, we (all 30-somethings!) got so into the magic that every time we saw a Princess we were talking to them as if they were real and not just some female employee from Orlando.

I don't think I really answered your question---I think your daughter will see how "real" the characters act, how "real" their costumes are and won't care if they are REAL or not! I promise, they are completely magical!
